Gifts for children
When you're buying presents for children you need to know how old they
are and make sure that the present you're getting is appropriate for
them. It's no good buying books with too high a reading age as the child
won't be able to read them, and buying books with too young a reading
age will make boring reading. Buying gifts for children is often easier as you can ask their parents what gifts they'd like, what books or films or toys they already have and if there's anythign that they're missing form their collections. Children who love certain brands of toys like lego will always be easy to buy for as lego produces many new sets each year. Hints for buying books include looking at what books they like reading already and finding out who their favourite author is. Then you can look at online book shops to monitor for when new releases are due out by that author and get that new book as it'll be one they don't already have. Looking for books by similar authors can also be a good thing to try so you expand their reading circle. Construction toys like Lego, Meccano, K'nex, Quercetti, Megablocks and even wooden building bricks are all age matched for the level of technical ability of the child. Some contruction sets are suitable for younger children because the pieces are bigger of the system is simple. Again for very young children make sure the item is suitable for their age especially as under 3s often put toys in their mouths. If there's a TV character or film that they love this can be a good starting point for looking for themed presents. Again asking parents what they've not got is a good starting point for you. Most good toy shops show clearly the age suitability range for the items they sell. If you're in doubt it is worth doing a little research to make sure that the item is right.
